Multi-Sport & Multi-Use Field Construction
Most of the fields Athletic Fields of America builds aren’t dedicated to a single sport — they serve multiple programs across multiple seasons. Schools, recreation departments, and clubs need one surface that handles football in the fall, soccer in the spring, lacrosse and field hockey in between, and PE classes year-round. We build multi-use fields designed to do all of it without compromise.
What We Build
Our multi-use field projects are designed around how the field actually gets used, and typically include:
- Full-size and reduced-size synthetic turf fields — sized for the primary sports the facility supports
- Multi-sport line striping — football, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, and any combination, in contrasting colors for clarity
- Custom logos and graphics — tufted in-house so they stay sharp across every sport's markings
- Turf systems engineered for cross-sport performance — pile height, density, and infill chosen to perform across the full mix of sports
- Drainage and base systems — engineered for heavy daily use across multiple programs
- Surrounding infrastructure — fencing, bleachers, lighting, walkways, parking, and any sport-specific amenities
Designed for Cross-Sport Play
A field that has to support football, soccer, and lacrosse all in the same season can’t be optimized for one sport at the expense of the others. We select turf systems that perform across the full range — enough pile height for football impact, the right density for soccer ball roll, surface friction that works for lacrosse stick play, and consistency that holds up to all of it.
The result is a field that doesn’t feel like a compromise on any sport. Coaches, players, and athletic directors get a surface that performs well across the full schedule.
Smart Line Striping
Multi-use fields live and die by their line striping. Done poorly, a field looks like a confusing mess of overlapping lines. Done well, each sport’s markings are clearly readable without competing with the others.
We use different line colors, line widths, and contrasting boundaries to separate sports — and our in-house tufting process means the lines are built into the turf, not painted on or cut-and-glued. They stay crisp through years of play and don’t fade or wear unevenly.
Built for High-Volume Use
Multi-use fields take more abuse than single-sport fields. They host varsity games, JV games, youth leagues, practices, PE classes, and community events — sometimes all in the same week. We engineer the field’s base, drainage, and turf system for that volume from day one, so the surface holds up across years of heavy use.
