Field Hockey Field Construction

Athletic Fields of America builds synthetic turf field hockey fields for high schools, colleges, and competitive programs across the Northeast.

Field hockey demands a very specific turf system — short pile, dense fiber, and a surface that supports the fast, low ball roll the sport requires. We build fields that meet competition standards and hold up to year-round play.

What We Build

Our field hockey projects are built to regulation specifications and typically include:

Built for Field Hockey Performance

Field hockey is unique among field sports. The ball stays close to the ground, players use sticks at full speed, and the surface needs to deliver consistent ball roll across the full field. Standard multi-use turf doesn’t meet the sport’s standards.

We work with turf systems specifically engineered for field hockey — shorter pile heights, denser fiber, and infill or surface options that maintain ball speed and predictable bounce. The result is a field that plays the way coaches and players expect at the high school, college, and competitive club levels.

Designed for the Northeast

Field hockey programs in the Northeast deal with everything from late-summer heat to October frost. Our base, drainage, and turf specifications are engineered around regional conditions — freeze-thaw cycles, heavy rain events, and the long playing season most schools demand.

The field stays playable through preseason, regular season, and tournament play without the constant maintenance of natural grass.

Full Project Scope

We handle every aspect of the project — not just the turf installation:

Site preparation and grading

Tight tolerances for surface levelness, which matters more on field hockey than almost any other sport.

Drainage engineering

Designed for fast surface drainage so heavy rain doesn’t pool or slow ball speed.

Amenities

Goals, fencing, netting, bleachers, lighting, walkways, and parking.

Project management

Single point of contact from design through completion. We coordinate with architects, engineers, athletic departments, and municipal planners.
