Dugouts & Bull Pens
Athletic Fields of America builds dugouts, bullpens, and on-deck areas as part of complete baseball and softball facility projects across the Northeast. Dugouts take more daily abuse than almost any other structure on a sports facility — cleats, equipment, weather, and constant use — and they need to be built to handle it.
What We Build
Our dugout and bullpen projects typically include:
- Permanent enclosed dugouts — block, masonry, or steel-frame construction with roofing and electrical
- Open-front dugouts — covered shelter structures with bench seating and equipment storage
- Pre-fabricated dugout shelters — faster installation, lower cost, and built to last
- Bullpen mounds and pitching areas — turf or aggregate surfaces with regulation mound construction
- On-deck circles and batting areas — integrated with the dugout layout and protected by netting
- Storage cabinets, bat racks, helmet shelves, and hooks — built into the dugout for organized use
- Electrical, lighting, and ventilation — for nighttime games and enclosed structures
- Drainage and concrete pad work — to keep the dugout dry, level, and clean
Built for Daily Use
A high school dugout sees varsity practice, JV practice, freshman practice, and weekend games — sometimes all in the same week. By the end of a season, dugouts that weren’t built right are full of damaged benches, broken storage, leaking roofs, and standing water on the floor. We build dugouts to last through years of that volume — durable materials, proper drainage, weather sealing, and finishes that hold up to cleats and equipment.
Coordinated with the Field
Dugouts aren’t standalone structures. They tie into the field layout, the fencing, the foul-territory walkways, the backstop, and the bullpen placement. When AFOA handles the full project, the dugouts are designed alongside the field — not added after the field is built and the layout decisions are already locked in.
That coordination matters for tight sites where every foot of foul territory counts, and for projects where ADA access, equipment storage, and player flow all have to work together.
